I found a set of 3 vintage jewelry boxes at an auction, and they are beautiful! For years I’ve been hanging my jewelry on a clothes hanger in the closet on an organizer like this one, and I’m over it.
So here’s what the boxes looked like before these hands blessed them.
And here’s how they look now!
Luckily they were all in great shape to begin with! I gave them a good scrub and tightened a couple of screws, and could have left them like that but I was feeling experimental.
The big one plays music, but I put a swift end to that after it started playing on its own. Haunted for sure. For this one I just cleaned the inside with a rag and soapy water, and cleaned the outside with vinegar (I put this shit on everything).
The small one was just ugly, but it’s the perfect size for some makeup. I tore out the innards and glued in some tropical paper. I mod podged the paper once it was in so that my makeup wouldn’t stain the paper. Then I painted the outside with chalk paint.
The green tape across the back was to fix my own fuck-up. Fall down 7 times, stand up 8.
It’s not perfect, but it’s better!
This one is one of my favorite projects ever! I took the hardware off and polished it up. I sanded and painted the box with chalk paint, and used a spray topcoat. The paint went on like velvet! Literally never have I ever painted anything this smooth before. Here’s the topcoat I used:
Looking good on the new vanity!
